Aileen Wuornos

Her span of killing six men from November 1989 to November 1990.

The first victim Richard Mallory was murdered at the age of 52, on November 30, 1989. He was a convicted rapist that she claimed she killed him in self-defence. On December 13 Mallory’s body was found in a wooded area, he had been shot several times. The second victim David Spears was murdered at the age of 43, on June 1, 1990. His nude body was found shot six times along highway 19. aileen-wuornos02-fullThe third victim Charles Carskaddon was murdered at the age 40, on May 31, 1990. On June 6, 1990 his body was found. He had been shot nine times with a small-caliber weapon. The fourth victim Peter Siems was murdered at the age of 65, on approximately July 4th. His body was never found. The fifth victim Troy Burress was murdered at the age 50, on approximately July 31st. On August 4th his body was found in a wooded area. He had been shot twice. The sixth victim Walter Jeno Antonio was murdered at the age of 62. His body was found in the nude on November 19th, he had been shot four times. Wuornos method of killing was through multiple gunshots. She disposed of the bodies by dumping them in different places.

Wuornos can be classified into more than one group such as a pyschopath, non-social offender, disorganized asocial offender, and a hedonistic killer. She inherited psychotic ways from her father. She is self-centered and a very good liar. She is classified as a disorganized asocial offender because of her low IQ. Her home life as a child was not very good and her parents were never around to raise her, she ended up dropping out of school. Every crime that she committed she showed premeditation because she sought out her victim’s and brought a weapon with her. She is a comfort killer where she gains something from killing.

On July 4th, 1990 Wuornos abandoned Peter Siems ‘ car after being involved in an accident. Witnesses that saw the woman driving provided police with their names and descriptions. This resulted in a media campaign to locate them. Police found some of the victims belongings in a near- by pawn shop. The police were able to retrieve fingerprints matching the ones found in the car. Wuornos fingerprints were on file. On January 9, 1991 Wuornos was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Wuornos former lover Tyria Moore agreed to elicit a confession from Wuornos in exchange for immunity. On January 16th, 1991 Wuornos’ confesses to the murders. She claimed that the men had tried to rape her and she killed them in self-defence.

aileenOn January 14, 1992 Wuornos went to trial for the murder of Richard Mallory. She was convicted on January 27th with the help of Moore’s testimony. Psychiatrists testified that Wuornos was mentally unstable and was borderline personality disorder and antisocial personality disorder. Four days later she was sentenced to death. On March 31, 1992 she pleaded no contest to the murders of another three victims. She was then sentenced to three more death sentences. Then in June 1992 Wuornos pleaded guilty to the murder of Charles Carskaddon in November she got her fifth death sentence. In February 1993 she pleaded guilty to the murder of Walter Jeno Antonio and was sentenced to death again. In total she received six death sentences. Her story of why she committed the murders changed very often. It went from being self-defence to robbery to desire to leave no witnesses.

Wuornos was incarcerated at the Florida Department of Corrections Broward Correctional Institution on death row for women. She was transferred to Florida State Prison for execution. In 2001 she stated she was going to dismiss her legal counsel and terminate all pending appeals. She said “There’s no chance in keeping me alive or anything, because I’d kill again.”. In 2002 Wuornos’ began accusing prison matrons of putting dirt, salvia, and urine in her food. She said she overheard prison personnel saying that they were trying to push me to the brink of committing suicide before the execution. Wuornos execution occurred on October 9, 2002, she died at 9:47 AM. She requested KFC and fries as her last meal. She was the tenth woman in the United States and the second in Florida to be executed.

In the early years of her life many things happened to her. Her father committed suicide while in person serving a child molesting sentence. Her mother abandoned her forcing her to live with her grandparents. Her grandmother was an alcoholic while her grandfather was very violent. Wuornos later stated that her grandfather sexually abused her. In her teens she was forced out of the house and had to live in the woods.
